Using disruptive Technologies to facilitate the Ecological transition of the Nautical sector

MicroPolo yacht revived!

⛵ The MicroPolo yacht – an essential companion of the TECoNaut project – is now officially on the water! And this is great news! 🎉

Why so? 🌿This unique boat, designed in the 80s from the passion of Dr Eng. Jack Centkowski and Dr Eng. Jana Młynarczyka, has been waiting for its turn for years. Thanks to the involvement of students and staff of the Gdánsk University of Technology Ship Building Institute and the support of partners, it underwent a fundamental metamorphosis and gained a second life after being “hidden” in the garden.

🗨️ – In the 80s, there was a famine of sailing in Poland, and there was a lack of affordable yachts on the market. Many people dreamed of sailing; that’s why they decided to build their own units. Although obtaining materials or sailing gear was very difficult at that time, there was no lack of passion and determination, said Dr Engineer Jacek Centkowski.

Pol️ – MicroPolo is the smallest yacht in Poland that is allowed to sail on the sea – added Dr Eng. Jana Młynarczyka.

“Micro” is a class of small regatta-tourist yachts whose basic parameters were defined back in 1977. In total, hundreds of them were created, and although fewer and fewer, you can still see them today. 🌊

Here is the initiative of the employees of the Ship Building Institute and students of WIMiO (Politechnika Gdańska), thanks to which the unit gained a new eco-life ♻️

🤝 The venture is implemented as part of the international Erasmus+ TEcoNaut project, which focuses on the importance of sustainability in sailing.

It will support educational events and practical demonstrations, helping connect innovative ideas with hands-on experience in sustainable boatbuilding.

⛵✨ Just as good as new! 80s MicroPolo yacht got a new life on PG. There was a raising of the sail and a meeting with the unit’s creators, and now “Polo” has set sail for the first time. 🌊

Here’s to innovation, maritime heritage, and a greener future!♻️

Stay tuned as we continue our TEcoNaut journey and share more updates from the water!
